Harry Cunningham

Harry Cunningham

Saks Fifth Avenue, New York City/USA, Senior Vice President, Store Planning, Design & VM

Harry Cunningham is the Senior Vice President of Store Planning, Design and Visual Merchandising for Saks Fifth Avenue. Recognized in 2012 as a “Retail Design Luminary” by the readers of DDI magazine, Harry has focused on bringing surprise and delight to every in-store experience.

He recently unveiled The Fifth Man, the highly anticipated relaunch of Saks Fifth Avenue’s men’s store in Beverly Hills. The laid-back showcase for the world’s finest menswear designers features D-Bar, the underground home for denim and drinks at Saks that integrates a full bar, a pool table, floor-to-ceiling artwork and a slew of luxury grooming services into a unique, lifestyle-oriented retail destination.

In his time at Saks, Harry has also developed the luxury retailer’s award-winning windows and legendary holiday displays, launched a new design for the company’s WEAR NOW business, created a “luxury in a loft” prototype for Saks Fifth Avenue’s OFF 5TH division that has rolled out to stores nationwide, and expanded the 10022-SHOE floor in New York—the Saks shoe salon that’s so big it has its own ZIP Code.

Previously, Harry directed visual merchandising and store design in roles of increasing responsibility at Dillard’s, Proffitt’s/McRae’s, Liz Claiborne Inc. and Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH. He is the VP of the Board of Directors for PAVE, and sits on the Advisory Boards of the High School of Fashion Industries in New York City as well as the FIDM Visual Communications School in Los Angeles.

Panel Discussion: How to stay attractive for customers – vitalization of traditional brands

The session will examine how Saks Fifth Avenue pairs its distinct shopping heritage with a new contemporary design philosophy, will tap into the elegant and creative new grocery paradigm that Whole Foods has created, and explore the growing international footprint that Sephora is unleashing on a global scale – and the challenges that come with each.
